Rafael’s Answer
Hi Emmalee, that’s a great question and you’ve already given yourself some solid advice! Songwriting often begins by listening to music you enjoy and drawing inspiration from it. Start by writing down your thoughts and feelings, like a journal entry, and then shape those into verses and a chorus. Don’t worry about making it perfect at first; even experienced songwriters go through several drafts. Try humming or singing your words to find a melody, and experiment with different rhythms. Learning a basic instrument like guitar or piano can help, but many songwriters begin with just their voice and a notebook. The most important thing is to practice regularly, keep writing, and avoid comparing your early work to established artists. You might also explore free online songwriting resources or local workshops to connect with others who share your interest. Keep going and stay inspired since every great song starts as a rough idea!

Emmalee you probably are already doing it and you don't realize it! Rafael's answer is great! I am going to point out that you already have music in you, its a matter of letting the rest of us hear it!
The easiest thing you can do is take your phone or tablet, open the voice recorder or garage band if you have apple and sing it into your phone. That can literally be it. If you are happy with the way it sounds and a single voice and melody sounds good, export and publish it.
If you do this and you want more, software instruments like LMMS and Hydrogen can help give you some rhythm and harmony. It may take a minute to learn them, there are thousands of other applications for free or for pay that can get that will give you a synth and drum sounds for your project.
Like Rafael said start to organize what you write. If its only you playing it, just make notes the way you can remember and scrapbook sounds from your phone/ tablet/ computer. If you need instruments, don't be afraid to pick one up and play it the best you can.
Start this now! The sooner you start the process you will find your own way in order to create, record, and express. This will never be a perfect process so don't try to make it perfect to start. Master the tools you have available at the time not the ones you think you need. Publish and perform what you create often to express yourself and change what you are doing when YOU want to change them!
Open sound recorder
Record sound
Listen to that sound
Add more to that song when you want to, repeat the process
