Hey Peyton, I haven't worked as a diesel mechanic myself, but from my own career I can tell you that the biggest challenge in any field is keeping up with evolving technology, since modern diesel engines are packed with electronics and computer systems now, so it's not just wrenches and grease anymore. The physical toll is real too, heavy lifting, awkward positions, and working in extreme temperatures, which in Minnesota is no small thing. Both plumbing and diesel mechanics are solid trades with strong demand, so I'd say think about what kind of daily life you want since plumbing tends to be more predictable while diesel work can mean odd-hour breakdown calls, and if you can, try to shadow someone in both trades for a day because that hands-on feel will make your decision way clearer than any advice online. Best of luck!
