Congratulations on getting into your dream school! It's completely normal to feel both excited and a little sad about leaving home.

Here are some great ways to stay connected without being glued to your phone all the time:

FaceTime: You don't need a long chat. Just call while you're getting ready or walking to class. Quick, casual talks help them feel included in your new world.

Group Chats: Share quick photos of your dorm or a nice sunset. It helps them see where you are.

Set a "Standing Date": Choose one night a week, like Sunday, for a good catch-up. This way, you won't feel bad if you're too busy during the week.

Send a Postcard: A surprise postcard or funny card can really cheer up your parents. It's a little piece of home they can hold onto.

The first few weeks can be tough, but once you get into a routine, it becomes much easier. Your family will always be your home base, no matter how far away you are.

Communication is important. Once you're settled, let your loved ones know when you're busy and when you're free. Sharing your schedule with them can be really helpful. Luckily, with today's technology, you can easily send a text, DM, or FaceTime. I also suggest trying non-linear communication. For instance, my brother runs a DND game on Discord. We can play at our own pace, enjoy it, and still manage our lives without being too strict. The key is that we're both making an effort, and that makes a big difference.
