What is a typical day like for a nurse
I am a student at job corps, I'm looking into going into health care and nursing #healthcare .

I used to work in the emergency department. I worked two 12 hour shifts a week. This is part time since it is 24 hrs a week. A full shift consists of three 12 hour shifts per week which equal 36 hours.
I used to work night shift and mid shift.
Night shift was 7pm to 730am. 30 mins of lunch.
Midshift was 11am to 1130pm.
There were also other shifts i work: 8am-830pm and 10am-1030pm.
I would wake up at 4pm to get ready and pack something to eat since during lunch time everything was closed (1 am).
I would get report from the dayshift and i would round with the nurse to meet my four patients.
I would make sure everything was okay with them, i would update them and i would make sure nothing was pending. The nurse would tell you if something needed to be done and what is the plan for each patient. I would speak to the doctor to get updates, to update them or to request medications. I would call report to other floor if patient needed transferring. I would take patiemt to the floor if they were very sick.
During this, we would also get full arrest, heart attacks, strokes and other critical patients.
Its alot of fast paced work but very rewarding. Time passes by really fast and never forget you have a team of nurses and doctors to back you up. Good luck!! Nursing is a very rewarding career.

In nursing, you can do so many different kinds of jobs, so your schedule can change drastically from job to job. I work in an outpatient pediatric practice, so I work generally 9-5, Mon-Fri, with later hours once a month. I am lucky and don't work weekends and once every few months, I am on call (have a work cell phone I have to answer). I see sick patients from 12-2pm and the rest of the day are well child physicals. The amount of patients seen every day is variable, depending on the day and the season. It definitely can be busy, but I am so happy I chose this career!
