What kind of jobs pay the best?

A good salary depends on many variables including geography, level of seniority, level of experience etc. Without knowing much and in order to simplify the answer to industry-specific, I'd say any field that has a high risk-reward ratio and work-life balance tradeoff will give you a satisfactory pay check examples: sales, finance (stock brokers, investment bankers), legal, medical etc.

I am pretty sure that finance jobs (stock broking, hedge funds) pay the best because of the big bonuses, but it also requires a poor work-life balance (very demanding, work long hours, high stress, etc). So it depends on what you value!
