How Do You Know Your Perfect Career Choice

Throughout life, people have asked me what I've wanted a career in, what school I'm going to, why I'm making these choices. The truth is, I don't know. I've heard of people who pull off the perfect career the first time, but how is it that they do it? I'm very overwhelmed with so many choices in front of me. #career #career-choice

Hi Bethany, I can completely relate to your question or I used to have the same dilemma when I was young. It took me about 6 years to finally found a career that I love and enjoy. It's completely normal for you to not know which choices you should take. My first advice for you is to discover yourself. It's a key step to know more about yourself such as your personality, strengths and weaknesses. There are several ways you can do this. First, you can try to take some online personality test such as Myers Briggs to know which personality styles are you. There's a lot of free online reading that is available that you can explore to discover yourself. However, personality test is only the first steps as not everything stated in your report is 100% true. Therefore, the second step for you is to obtain feedback from people around you about the way you behave, your strengths and development opportunities. By gathering input from others, you will be able to know how others perceived you. The third step is the most important step, which is to be reflective by asking yourself if the online test results and feedback from others are true, start asking yourself, which of the statement that you will continue doing as it's something that you know its true about yourself. One thing to take note is to know that feedback or input given by others are not personal and never get emotional about how others perceive you. You always have a choice to be reflective about inputs receive from others.

While you are working on discovering yourself, you should always accept opportunities that present and never be afraid to explore. The more you explore, the more answers you will find out about your likes and dislikes.

I hope this will help you and i wish you best of luck!

Carol’s Answer

Often the right career finds you.

If you grab every opportunity with both hands and give 100% then you will find the right career for you. If you view it as a journey not the end destination then you will always grow and develop.

The main piece of advise that I can give you is to work your career around something that you love. For example - I love reading and creative writing and I am able to fulfill this desire in my job. This makes me motivated and engaged to do a good job.
