I would say that it definitely depends on the field and the work flow of the practice/hospital you work at. The MAs where I work have a pretty even balance between in rooms with patients and sitting to finish up paperwork and billing. But, a friend of mine at a different clinic spends most of her time sitting. If you're curious, that's a great question to ask in an interview: "What does a typical day look like for a medical system at [location] in terms of duties and tasks?"

Kirstie’s Answer

Working in a primary care clinic full-time, I sit so much of my day that I find myself standing up and hunching over or bending my knees just to stretch a little bit multiple times throughout the day. Don't get me wrong I am plenty busy but all of the work that needs my immediate attention is in my immediate vicinity.

Gaelan’s Answer

When I worked in the ER I rarely got to sit to be honest but now I work in a private practice office and I get to sit down frequently but not for long periods of time.
