Being a manager is about being a leader and having vision for your team and leading them by example. It is not just about telling people what to do, but also how to do it and putting timelines on tasks.

I recommend learning as much as you can about your current role. When you're ready, be open to new opportunities within your organization such as special projects and offering support where you can. I also recommend establishing a rapport with someone who is already in the role so you can learn as much as possible about the manager role you're looking to get into.
