Entry level Medical Records

I recently completed Health Data Analyst I from Wharton Junior County college. I am looking for entry level positions in the Health Care field. However I am having difficulty getting jobs because everyone is asking for Health Care experience.

Any advice/suggestions as to what I should do? Any places where I can volunteer or work as Temp to gain Medical Records experience?

Hi Manisha,

I would recommend checking with local medical offices, both through large healthcare systems and smaller private practices. Don't limit yourself to traditional medicine, experience at a dental office, optometrist, physical therapist, etc. would give you medical experience that could help you transition towards a medical records position.

Hello Manisha,
I would definitely suggest looking into volunteer options as you mentioned as well as entry level medical records positions within a hospital or a doctors office. It can be difficult to have the experience that is being sought out for these kinds of positions but not impossible to do. Best of luck.

Hi Manisha,

Health Data Analyst is a good field but most positions in data analyst are required expeiences . However, you can gain medical records or electronic medical records (EMR ) experiences by applying entry level in many healthcare settings ( doctor offices, or hopsital ). There are lots of entry level positions in this field (like medical records coordinator, electronic health record specialist ) but there is no volunteer position for medical records.
Hope this helps!
