Name what you love about this career and what you dislike about it (if any).?

Hi i am Esmeralda and at my school we are learning about career and i chose orthodontics and i just want to know what you love about yall job and what you dislike about it (if any).

Thank you comment icon Hi Esmeralda, how are you? I'm an Orthodontist almost 28 years. I'm a professor in Orthodontic too. Well, I love to be an Orthodontist because is a dentistry area where you don't treat directly with the pain. Usually the patients are happy with the treatment because is an aesthetic area, so they are in your dental office looking for aesthetic and not because are in pain. Another good thing is that is a profitable area with recurrence for some months. But, there are 2 things that I don't like it: 1) When the patients coming to my office and take off a braces. 2) When the patient get to asking me how long time left to finish the treatment. This is too annoying. Ricardo Resstom

Hi Esmeralda! It's so great to hear from you. I've been an Orthodontist for almost 28 years and a professor in Orthodontics as well. One of the reasons I absolutely love being an Orthodontist is because it's a dentistry area where I don't have to treat pain directly. This means that my patients are usually quite happy with their treatment, as they're seeking aesthetic improvements rather than relief from pain. Plus, it's a profitable area with ongoing appointments for several months.

There are just a couple of small things I'm not too fond of: 1) when patients come to my office and remove their braces, and 2) when they keep asking me how much longer their treatment will take. It can be a bit annoying at times, but it is ultimately worth it when I see the positive impact my work has on my patients' lives. I truly hope this information is helpful to you! Keep smiling!
