Kelly’s Answer

Accounting has gotten a bad rap over the years. There is a popular stereotype that the accountant is the solitary “bean counter” who quietly works behind the scenes recording financial transactions and balancing the books. The reality is that accountants are on the front lines helping businesses succeed, keeping cities and states running, and protecting the financial health and security of organizations and individuals.

Accounting gives you a wonderful background in business, and helps you understand a full business, top to bottom.

Hi Samantha,

I think accounting is such a great field to go into because it's a very versatile area and jobs are always available for qualified applicants. Many people don't realize how many options there are when you have an accounting degree. Most people just think they will be doing taxes the rest of their lives but this is not the case! Check out the link below for more info on the different areas of accounting there are!

Darren’s Answer

Along with Kelly's response, accounting is a good career because it is essentially the root of all business. Businesses want to make money and accountants help people make decisions with that money to help them save, spend, and make money as efficiently as possible so they can buy those nice cars, houses, and jewelry. It's a lot more than basic calculations, it's a lot of decision making and planning through working in teams. Businesses value their accountants a lot, so for a good career, I would say it's great because as long as there are businesses that want to make money, they will always want accountants there to help! So for job demand it's great and it typically pays well, so the company makes money and you will make some as well. It's a win, win situation!
