There's a lot that goes into answering this question that I can't quite assess from the question itself. For instance, is there a financial need that is driving this decision or is it to just have some side cash? If there isn't an immediate financial need, I would suggest trying to focus on your studies as much as possible or only balancing a job if it doesn't impact your schooling. However, the summer time is a great time to find an opportunity to earn some extra cash while also gaining great experience that will not only help for college admissions, if that is an option for you, as well as careers after schooling. Jobs help establish good work ethic at an early age as well as time management skills which are both essential to future career success.

If you are in high school, helping other students, possibly through tutoring can be a big opportunity for you. You will learn perseverance, listening skills, and build up your ability to teach while helping out your classmates. You will be able to raise the self confidence of your peers as well.
Finding ways to help your community (babysitting, mowing lawns, apprenticeships with electricians or trade workers) can also be a way for you to learn and work.

You can also reach out to your teachers to help them out as a TA if they are receptive to your assistance. This can lead to further opportunities.

Leverage the internet (safely) to find opportunities for you to learn- you can consume and generate your own content and potentially monetize it.
Starting your own online business can also be a great opportunity for you to learn entrepreneurship skills.

Attend free or paid conferences and volunteer to be at booth of events; ask the audience what they do after you do your duty at the booth; for the right person, ask if they have a paid or unpaid internship opportunity.
Ask your parents, teachers, friends about any opportunities they can help with.
Contribute to open-source (unpaid job).

While having a job can be rewarding, prioritize your time so you are able to focus on your education. Having a job while being a student is all about balance so check in with yourself and be aware of your commitments before over working yourself.

It depends on what type of jobs you're interested in. If you're interested in working any job simply to earn some cash on the side, there will be likely be opportunities around your local community, such as nearby grocery stores, libraries, or restaurants. If you're looking for something to explore your career, consider looking online on job boards, such as LinkedIn, Indeed, etc. There isn't a specific best time to find a job: consider whether you currently have the time to start working and keep your eyes out for any openings that interest you!

Now to answer the question: is it good to have a job during high school? You'll likely learn a lot of skills from having a job, including management skills (learning to manage your finances and time), while also gaining money on the side to spend on whatever you'd like. Having a job will also demonstrate that you're a responsible individual, and may even be an experience you'll end up sharing with colleges. However, it is important to remember that you're still young, and a student. It may be very difficult to balance spending hours working at a job while also being expected to complete homework assignments and projects for your classes. Keep all these things in mind as you consider whether a job will be a good fit for you. If you decide you're in a good spot and would like to take on more challenges, go for it! But if you are currently feeling stressed out or tired from high school, then perhaps now is not the right time to look for a job.
