What advice can you give to a woman pursuing a career in the medical field?

For the past 2-3 years, I am still a bit lost in what specific career I want to pursue. I know I want to be in the medical field or a hospital setting, but still unsure of what exactly I want to pursue.

Look into volunteering at a local charity clinic. We have a clinic that allows college students to scribe for the providers. This not only gets you good insight into the practice of medicine, but also familiarizes you with the vocabulary. Many of the clinics have nurses, nurse practitioners, physicians, pharmacists, etc. Getting acquainted with the responsibilities of each field will help you decide what's right for you.
Good luck!

Hi Bianca,
Knowing that you want to create a career in the medical field is a good start. There are always options and you wouldn’t be able to choose unless you know what they mean. I would advice getting an internship or a part time job in a hospital. These could be assistantships in the doctor’s office, research or nursing or hospital management. Take the help of your network, people you know that are in this field for getting an opportunity to work inside. Once there, you can start talking to the professionals whose work seems interesting to you. I have worked in a hospital/medical setting for 7 years and one thing is for sure, you will be rewarded with a feeling of satisfaction while helping others. Don’t waste time, get your foot in.
