What is it like to work with special needs children and how do I deal with it?

I am interested in considering the idea of working with youth who have special needs. But I don't interact with children very often so I only really know how people around my age with special needs, such as autism, act. I'm aware that because they are children, their temper and behavioral decisions are going to be different, but I would like to know how I should react in this kind of situation. Also, since it is an emotionally and mentally demanding job, how do I manage my own frustrations and stress by myself when it feels like things are too much?

What's it like to be in Career Village?

I have #autism. My life was very rough with it. I was struggling in #school all these years because I mad some of my #teachers mad in the past. All I want is to #graduate and go to #college so that I can get a #job. I have my #parents to support me. I sometimes like to dabble in #arts-and-crafts. When I enter college, I would like to enroll in #STEM. I know it may be hard, but I hope that when I #graduate, I would have the talent in a few #technology jobs like computer science.

Will the field of genetics be detrimental to my personal beliefs?

I am planning to pursue a #STEM degree in either #genetics or #molecular-biology, but I am afraid that my field will be filled with people who are actively trying to cure #autism which is not something that can be cured, but is just a different mind type with a wide range of symptoms and effects. I also do not agree with the search for a so-called "gay gene" because I feel that is only motivated by the want to edit said gene out of the population. Are there places to conduct #research that aren't as biased/bigoted? I know that #johns-hopkins-university is out of the question because their magazine had both of the above "studies". Is there a safe alternative for me, or do I have to deal with intolerance and ignorance anywhere I go?

What will a daily schedule be like for a special education teacher?

Hello I am Casey Gaffney, a junior at Boston Collegiate Charter School. I have always wanted to be a teacher since I was a child. I am specifically interested in Special Education. I want to focus on Down Syndrome and Autism. I am curious about how teaching students with special disabilities will be like? What will the class structure be like? What should I expect? What sort of curriculum is given to these students? #teacher #educator #special-education #disabilities #autism #down-syndrome
