Hi Amberly! All you need to be a labor and delivery nurse is a degree that allows you to become a registered nurse. Some states have associate's degree programs (2 years of college) and some require bachelor's degrees (4 years of college). Once you complete your schooling, you take a test called the NCLEX. This is the nursing board exam. Upon passing, you can apply for a nursing license in the state you want to work. Labor and delivery is a very specialized area. Sometimes new grads have trouble finding work in that specific nursing field right away. However, it happens! I was a new grad when I started working in labor and delivery. It is an intense and exciting place to work. Good luck!
