What should i do if I get into collage but cant afford it.

I'm applying to college, but I wanted to know what to do if I don't get scholarships to cover the costs and can't afford the rest without taking out a student loan.

Hey Anthony. It's important to do some self-reflection and answer some real questions honestly now. If you've done it already and know the answers, great.

Why are you going to college? What do you want to study? Do you have a career path in mind or interests that you can only learn more about through college?

If you are unsure about any of those questions, maybe also look into a 2-year college, get an associate's degree maybe. Less expensive and more efficient than a 4-year college. Trade school is an option as well. Or you can go to a community college for relatively cheap and work while you study.

If you know you want to go to the college you got in to, scholarships are the best option if you can get them. There are a lot out there so use your time wisely to research and apply. It will feel like a grind but it is worth it.
Going into debt to go to college is a tough pill to swallow. I did it and it took a long time to pay off my loans and I know I am one of the lucky ones that was able to get out from under that debt.
Don't spend tons of money or get into tons of debt if you aren't sure why you are doing it right now. Parents may push and that's ok but if they aren't willing to help financially, their words can only go so far. You are becoming an adult now and the consequences of the choices you make will be yours to face, no one else's.

Anthony,

You've got this! Here's what you can do:

- Talk to the Financial Aid department at your college or school.
- Look into scholarships offered by the school or from outside sources.
- Inquire about any university grants and find out how you can qualify.
- Consider part-time school options, so you can work while studying.

Best,
AC
