My first, and really only piece of advice- Hard work!

Once you have determined your dream school you can research their requirements, and ensure that the university can offer to you exactly what you need or want. Then my next piece of advice, once you understand what the school needs, work hard to be able to meet those minimums and then some! if they say they only want a minimum SAT score, try to study and work hard to have a higher score than that, if they only want a minimum of community service hours try to double that!

Don't rely on luck, your hard work will help you immensely!

Rachel’s Answer

Hi Alexandria!

I would suggest reaching out to the admissions department at your dream school to see if they can assist you with what the application entails and what they are looking for in prospective students. I would also suggest making sure you visit your dream school to ensure that is where you want to go. I know after I visited a handful of schools I dropped some of them off my list because they just weren't best suited for me.

I know that colleges look for students that are hardworking and active within their school and community. Make sure that you have extracurricular clubs or activities on your application as well as volunteering and of course good grades! The essay is a huge part of the application too so I would make sure you have someone edit and review your easy before submitting it. I know that they read these essays, I actually got a handwritten note on my acceptance letter that referred to my essay application. Hope this helps!

Rachel recommends the following next steps:

Keep those grades up! A good GPA and a high score on the SAT/ACT is key.
Be active in your community be volunteering.
Participate in extracurricular at school.
Practice essay writing and have someone review and edit your essays.
Visit your dream school and reach out to the admissions team.
