How do you find scholarships for graduate school?

I am a college senior from Middle Tennessee planning to move to Arkansas for graduate school. I need scholarships to help me get through grad school and still be able to afford living expenses. Any tips for where and how to apply for scholarships?

Hi Jennifer,

A lot depends on your field of studies. In some fields you get paid as a research assistant or get a job as a teaching assistant in the department. In other fields that is not an option.

If you have a supervisor, talk to them about supporting you. Find out from the department if you can work as a TA or tutor. Talk to the Financial Office of the university if they have scholarships.

Check professional societies in your field for scholarships. Check companies that would hire people with your education for scholarships.

Check with your hometown and state if there is any support. Employers sometimes have scholarships for the kids of employees.

Search engines for scholarships (scholarships.com, scholarship360.org, niche, collegebiard etc) allow you to filter opportunities by all kinds of criteria.

Find a part-time job that is flexible enough to work with your studies.

I hope this helps! All the best to you!
