Wendi’s Answer

A career in Esthetics can be profitable and enjoyable. There is alot of opportunity out there. High end resorts and Spas pay well anywhere from 80 to 100.00 dollars an hour or more depending on location. The drawback to consider in this scenario is that you will need to have years of experience before landing a job. If you prefer more result driven treatments or facial devices a med spa may be a good fit. They usually pay hourly and most clients add on gratuity. Working for yourself can be very profitable but it does take time to build a clientele. In this scenario you can set your own hours and treatment prices.

Jules’s Answer

To be frank, it will depend on many factors such as location, education, type of business, and experience. You can make a decent living in esthetics and cosmetology. I went to Cosmetology school and got my professional license which allowed me to be able to perform all skin and hair services. I also went back to school to add massage therapy to my repertoire. I was highly successful in a small college city in western Illinois, but would have been more successful in a larger area like where I live now. So, depending on those factors listed prior, you can be as successful as you allow yourself!

Jules recommends the following next steps:

Research the area you wish to work in.
Research median income levels for your position in the area you wish to work in.
Consider booth rental, percentage share, small business ownership, and other types of income types for your position.
