Certifications are a good way to make you stand out from your fellow job applicants, and they can help you get into more competitive companies or fields.
Aside from the licenses, certifications can help funnel you into a career of your choosing if you have a specialized certification. Some examples i have off the top of my head are:
-Industrial systems electrician
-HVAC certification
-Solar/Wind Certifications
-Marine Electrical certification
-Safety certification
Job Experience and a technical school degree will help a lot as well, but the certifications are a good way to find what part of the electrical field you want to end up in. I would recommend thinking about where you want to end up and then search for certifications/degrees that specifically target that field.

Getting certified as an electrician can help you earn more and set you apart from those without it. While I'm not an expert in the electrician field, I always ask if a technician is licensed. I'm not sure if certification helps you get a license, but almost all electricians have one because they need to know their stuff!
