What is the pay often seen as a chef?

I am a student of Oak Harbor High school in Ohio and I was considering becoming a chef, so I'm trying to get some extra information before I make my decision.

Hello Gabriel,

It is good that you are thinking about being a chef and is very needed in the world we live in. In terms of your question, the pay of a chef will depend on factors like experience, what company you work for, what type of chef you are, the certifications you have, what city you work in and many more factors that are involved with pay. Keep working on trying to gain experience, look at restaurants or possible opportunities to work at and go to a culinary school or culinary programs if possible. Best of luck to you!

Jason’s Answer

To Gabriel, Chef pay depends on a lot if factors. Location, demands , property, responsibility's, number of staff ,size of company but most of all what you can offer as a chef through your experience, knowledge and skills. High demand areas like NYC will offer better pay as a chef then a chef in less Rual areas. Your skills and experience's will be the biggest factor in chefs pay. You can't exactly put a number on pay because what's a good pay for some may not be for others. Find a goal or number that you think is good pay for a chef when you get there . Research your area you want to work and look for the rates and see if your OK with that. If not keep working hard to get your worth as a chef. It's going to take a while to get there but with determination and hard work you'll find your price. Good luck and happy cooking.
