What should I expect as a nursing major?

This I what I am planning on majoring in. I will be new to it, and I want to be as prepared as I can be.

Thank you comment icon As a nursing major, plan on knowing how to prioritize your time. When your receive your syllabus start reading the required chapters. Professors will expect you to have done the assigned reading and come to class prepared to ask questions. My suggestion, if you have not taken a medical terminology course please do so before you take Anatomy&Physiology1 and 2. The reason being, once you get into A&P, most professors will make an answer wrong if it is spelled incorrectly. Medical terminology will not only help you with pronunication but will help with spelling as well. Reason 2, the slightest misplaced letter could change the entire meaning of what you are trying to say. Karen Betts

Hi Amy! I'm YoonJi and I work at CareerVillage. I love your question for 2 reasons, one personal and the other professional.

Personal connection: My sister was a nurse for over a decade. We lived together while she completed an accelerated nursing program (after her bachelor's degree in Kinesiology), and I got to see her study hard, go on different hospital rotations, and even be her guinea pig while she practiced drawing blood. She was randomly placed on a cardiac rotation and ended up really enjoying it. She became an adults cardiac nurse and then after a few years transitioned to the pediatric cardiac ICU unit, which she ended up loving. But to be honest, it's tough seeing a lot of blood and doing intense care for very sick patients. However, it is incredibly meaningful work. My sister has kept in touch with the patients and families she has supported over the years and those bonds are real and deep.
