What can I do now as a journalism major and college freshman, to try and land my dream job in sports media ?
I am currently a college freshman at Michigan State, and am a journalism major. I want to eventually work in sports media and was wondering what can I do to try and land my dream job once I graduate.

One thing I’d encourage you to remember is that you may not land your dream role immediately after graduation and that’s okay. Stay motivated, keep building your experience, and continue working toward your long-term goal.
One of the biggest steps you can take now is to start networking. Join organizations, clubs, and groups related to journalism, broadcasting, sports, or media, and take the time to genuinely connect with people in those spaces. Building authentic relationships can open a lot of doors in the future.
I’d also highly recommend pursuing internships whenever possible, whether during the school year or over the summer. Internships are one of the best ways to gain hands-on experience, grow your skills, and show companies your work ethic and passion. They also help you build connections that can lead to opportunities after graduation.
Another thing that can help is creating a portfolio of your work early on — writing articles, covering games, starting a sports blog, podcast, or social media page can all help showcase your abilities and interests. The more experience and content you build now, the stronger your resume will be later.
