I think many people still would choose to attend college if colleges were more open, accepting, and supportive of different backgrounds, learning styles, and life situations. For a lot of students, the biggest issue is not learning itself — it is feeling unsupported, overwhelmed, financially stressed, or like they do not belong.
College can provide valuable opportunities such as networking, career preparation, internships, mentorship, and personal growth. However, when students feel judged, excluded, or treated like numbers instead of people, it can make higher education feel discouraging rather than empowering.
At the same time, I also think society is changing. More people are realizing there are multiple paths to success outside of traditional college, including certifications, trade schools, entrepreneurship, online learning, and direct work experience. Even if colleges became more accepting, some people would still choose alternative paths because they fit their goals, finances, or learning preferences better.
In my opinion, the ideal future is not forcing everyone into one path, but creating environments where students feel respected, supported, and informed enough to choose the path that is best for them. For some people that will still be college, and for others it may not be — and both choices can lead to successful careers and fulfilling lives.
