When do I need to know what kind of physician I want to be?

I am interested in a lot of areas for medicine, but I'm worried that I know what exactly I want to be when I need to decide. I'm looking forward to rotations in med school, but do I need to know what I want to be before then? #medicine #student

Richard’s Answer

People usually decide during the 3rd year of medical school. But you need to decide before you begin applying to residency early during the 4th year of medical school

You do not need to know what kind of physician you want to be before entering medical school. Once you get into medical school, you will be exposed to many different fields, and you can decide which one is most interesting and exciting for you. I did not decide until I was a third year student.
