Hello Alyssa,

Depending on your geographical location and size of the school district, teachers can make a decent salary. And, if you can get by for at least 3 years, you will be eligible to promote to a specialist or administrative position. You should also consider opening a daycare facility.

I have been in education for 20 years. When I began as a teacher, I was a single mom with 3 small children. I didn't worry about my salary...I had faith and God made a way for me financially!! I am now working in Central Office as a K-2 Instructional Specialist and makes as much as a beginning elementary school principal. Bottom line...do what you love and the money will come!!

Good luck to you!!

Hi there! Being a teacher is definitely a rewarding job, but you're right, the salary IS low. (wayyyy too low in my opinion!) Another great way to combine your passion for teaching and children is in the daycare industry. There's so many different aspects of daycare. You can work in a center, or you can become licensed to open a home daycare. I did that for years and I loved it! Having your own home daycare is great. Not only do you get to hang with children all day, but you have so many opportunities to teach them. I actually taught a preschool curriculum so that my daycare kids would be prepared for kindergarten. It's so rewarding when you teach a child something they will use for the rest of their life. The best way to get started is to reach out to your local Department of Children and Families office and inquire about licensing. The requirements for obtaining your home daycare license varies from state to state, so this would be a good first step, if you're interested. Hope this helps! :)
