I think computer technician is a challenging and interesting career. It allows you to be working on the latest hardware and software . As a computer technician you would be responsible for installing, maintaining and troubleshooting hardware and software. In this role you will need to keep up on the latest hardware and software so this is a great learning opportunity.

If you enjoy working with computers and troubleshooting issues, a career as a computer technician could be for you. There are multiple areas you can focus on as a computer technician such as: end user devices (desktops/laptops/tablets/phones), business devices (servers and networking equipment), and software. You can provide onsite or remote support depending on the types of issues you're working on. If you have to install/replace/troubleshoot hardware, this will need to be a job where you're onsite. On the other hand, if you are helping end users solve issues on their computers so that they can continue to do their jobs, the majority of this can be handled remotely.

When thinking about a career choice, it's important to think about earning potential and job security. The computer field as a whole continues to grow and technology isn't something that is going away. This means that there is a lot of job security due to the reliance on computers in these modern times. Computers need to be serviced and new systems set up all of the time which creates the ever growing need in the job market. As computer systems get more complex and you gain more experience, you're able to negotiate better salaries.

As mentioned, computers are ever changing and this creates the ability to continue to learn and get excited about what's next. This is something that has kept me in the field for the last 19 years and I don't see myself leaving anytime soon.

I think that Computer Technician is a great option. I imagine there are lots of different variations and particular sub-fields for someone in that role, but I think one of the most exciting sub-fields, and one with the most growth, would be to focus on server infrastructure.

Compute infrastructure providers (the companies that run the "cloud" where individuals and businesses can rent compute infrastructure) are building out their server farms at a fantastic rate, and they need talented people to design, build, maintain, and run them. That's where a computer technician could come in. It would allow you to be working at the cutting edge of technology (the latest advancements in AI, machine learning, and neural networks are being made in cloud compute infrastructure), while also being able to get a job in nearly any region in the world (most cloud providers build data centers in as many regions as possible for redundancy and to reduce latency for their users).
