To prepare for the work (I assume in general), you should do the following:
1. Focus on the goal (what do you want for this work)
2. Spec out the requirement, are they do-able?
3. Consider rocks and stones along the way.
4. Find a solution for each individual problem and find people and resources that help you.
5. Set a deadline but focus on achievement along the way.
6. Do it, just do it (I am humming a theme song in my head too).
