Balaji’s Answer

Hi Neha,

Photography is the science, art and practice of creating images. First I would want you to choose which type of photography you are interested in. There are different types: Amateur, Commercial, Art & Science and forensics. Each of these have their subdivisions like the Commercial has sub types like Advertising, Fashion, Still Life, Food, Editorial, Portrait, Landscape, Wildlife, Paparazzi, Pet etc. Choose what type of Photographer you want to become.

Next step, start taking photos of the ones that you are most interested in. Initially, do not use a camera itself. Use an android smartphone and download apps which give full camera control (Control of aperture, focus, shutter speed, ISO etc). Learn how all these controls affect the image quality and play with these controls. It will take time but dedicate yourself and try to take images of all types so that you can learn the most. Once you have found a passion for it, then you might want to try out few cameras.

Approach a known photographer for learning usage of cameras and once you have the basics, take up professional courses in photography which will give you advanced skill set in photography. It takes lot of time and dedication but you will surely love it once you have mastered the art.

All the best and choose and chase your passion.
