I want to be a pharmacologist. Would I need to be a pharmacist first?
Pharmacology and pharmacy obviously go hand-in-hand, but to become a pharmacologist, do I need a regular pharmaceutical degree before I can be accepted into the Pharm D. programs? #pharmacy #pharmacist

To become a pharmacologist or chemist are similar in that they require the personnel to be trained and educated in the process of designing a drug or chemical structure that has potential of becoming a drug if it proves to have potential of acting on the target enzyme providing a favorable outcome with minimal side effects. As far as Pharm D degrees goes you only have fulfill the pre-requisite courses for a particular pharmacy school(s) (these courses might vary a bit between different schools). There is no requirement for a bachelors degree although I would suggest you get one preferable for you in Chemistry. Start the application process of pharmacy schools atleast a year before you graduation. But if you interested in developing and designing drugs or interested in food/chemical industry you can go for a Ph.D. in Chemistry to become a Chemist. Hope this helped.

No, you don't need to be a pharmacist in the first place. You may get degree in science in health related subject then do masters and PhD in Pharmacology. Although you can be a pharmacist or physician then persue specialization in pharmacology to be a pharmacologist. Both trac has difference in type of research you would involved into.
