I would try to do an internship at a local news station that is not a union. They often allow you to experience all the different aspects of that goes on from camera, editing, directing, graphics, writing, etc. It really can give you a broad overview of how the business works.

Your question is too general. What specifically do you want to do. Your question is like saying I want to work with cars? Well does that mean selling them, racing them or fixing them?

I would add to intern at smaller companies. Larger ones usually have structures in place and interns end up getting coffee. Smaller places need the work, and interns are used to help out more.
