Why do you choose business as your major?

As an international student from China, I choose to enter business school because it helps me to find job. I think business school have enough career service to help any students who are studying. Actually I feel confused about my future. I am not sure where i will stay or which job is best to me. Do you have similar thoughts when your are nearly 20 years old. I have changed a lot after I study abroad. #study-abroad #china

Hello there! It's completely okay to feel uncertain about your future, it's a common feeling we all experience. Even I, at times, find my major challenging and question whether I can excel in it. My advice for you in such a situation is to delve into various opportunities, perhaps through diverse internships, to discover your true passion. This could be a great way to figure out if it's something you'd enjoy doing in the future. Acting swiftly could be beneficial in this process. So, stay positive and keep exploring!

Collegeboard.org is a great resource for this! I poured through the pages of universities all over the U.S. when I was a senior in high school. Collegeboard was my go-to site! They put all of the information in one place and it is very easy to use. They even have various filters you can apply to see only colleges that have programs you are interested. To determine academic rigor, look at the admissions requirements, G.P.A. of past admitted applicants, SAT/ACT scores, class rank etc. This will give you an idea of what scores and grades you need to be accepted. However, don't be discouraged your application will be reviewed based on the full picture! College-board will help you get an idea of what is most important to the specific school you are applying to.

This professional recommends the following next steps:

 • Chat with your Guidance Counselor
 • Create a Collegeboard.org account
 • Start using CollegeBoard as a resource to look up schools.

Marissa’s Answer

Hi - choosing business as your major allows you to have a solid foundation after college in which you can rely on. While in school you can choose for your business degree to be broadly focused and learn many different areas of business, or to narrow your focus and have the foundational business classes and then focus on something like accounting or finance. A business degree will give you the flexibility to pivot into different roles while having the general business background. Consider being a business major if you think it is something that you're interested in now that you would like to learn more about and continue to grow that foundational education as you go out into the business world.
