What is the average income for being a chef?

I'm asking this question because I really want to be a chef but I don't know how much they earn. #chef

It really depends where you live and what area of food you are working in. If you are living in a metropolitan area in a restaurant/hotel assume $50-60k. Residential communities will be less. If it is a corporate chef job you may stand to make more depending on the company.

If you want more money, go corporate, but then you most likely have little to no control over the menu, and super restrictive contracts to follow. If you want more control, but less money and a harder struggle, go privately owned. There are many shades of grey between the two.
