Brad’s Answer

Radio is a fun industry, and there are many opportunities in radio other than on-air. You should also think about social media, social media influencers, video production, and event promotion. I would encourage you to try to shadow a role at a radio station or get involved a student/community radio station, if available. You'll want to be not just a "salesperson" but a master of your medium by understanding each avenue for advertising and promotion and why your partners can benefit.

Brad recommends the following next steps:

Shadow at a commercial radio station
Get involved at a community or student radio station
Learn technical skills related to radio, social media, and audio/video production

Eric’s Answer

Sales is a great field to be in especially if you have an entrepreneurial spirit, consider yourself a self starter, and are easily driven to beat or exceed your goals. When thinking about radio sales, always try to think big picture. The larger the sale, the larger your potential commission/income. So when I think about it, it's really advertising sales across all media. That could be selling ad space on the radio but also Pandora, Instagram, SnapChat, or Facebook. If I was to suggest one person to follow on Social Media, it might be Gary Vaynerchuk. His posts often offer great advice on work ethic and decision making early in your career.
