what skills will I need to become a welder?

I'm 18 years old and I'm trying to get into welding so I can become a blacksmith in the future like my uncle. I was also wondering how long it would take me to make a shield?

Michael’s Answer

Blacksmithing is completely different than welding but if u do get into welding for it I suggest mig welding and Tig welding and practice, practice, practice on makeing blades and shields it takes a long time to learn those kind of skills

Michael recommends the following next steps:

Get tips from welders
Talk to a ferrior (horse shoe maker)
Volunteer to work under them
Show up on time if they take u on
Never be late

Hi Michael,
If your uncle is a welder, it's a great idea to spend time with him and ask about his job. You could even volunteer to help him, which would give you practical experience. For questions about making a shield, your uncle would be the best person to ask. Good luck!
