Good question. You want to look into fields that you have an interest in and start making connections with individuals in that field. You can do that through volunteer opportunities at their office or connecting with potential peers through social media. For example, if you were interested in Law Enforcement, contact your local police department and inquire about doing a ride along. This can give you real life experience to help you decide if it's something you might be interested in. You can also start making connections with the law enforcement community.
If you are interested in healthcare, you could look for volunteer roles to get a step inside and see how things work. This tactic could apply to numerous other organizations.
If you plan on going to college, use internships to your advantage as well. They can help you establish connections and get to know an organization before you fully commit to it.
