Liediana’s Answer

Hi there! Do ask yourself what is your usual style when working. Some people love to follow time closely and hence set a particular duration for each activity to be completed. Others simply remain spontaneous and just estimate, while ensuring that all that needs to be done, is done.
Fundamentally, I would reccomend the method of sorting matters into 'priority' vs 'not priority' and under each, you can further categorise it into 'urgent' and 'not urgent'. This helps you categorise matters into more manageable compartments, taking better control of life that seems to be slipping away.

Nandini’s Answer

Hello Faith,

Assuming you are looking to guidance for helping you manage your college schedule, I would look to these steps for helping you find your tempo.

1. Create a routine - While I was in college, the first thing that helped me was creating a routine. I created a timetable for myself that had everything from class schedules, time to cook, see/ talk to my family, friend times, party times, and of course the crucial sleep time.
2. Time to study - Set aside more time than you think you need for studying. Inevitable, something will interrupt your study sessions - so I would set aside more time than I think I need so I am mentally prepared
3. Do not multi task - Based on personal experience, neither of your tasks will be completed to your satisfaction
4. Set goals for the day and work towards it.
5. Me time - A very important step in college. Spend some time by yourself mediating or doing something you love.

Hope my answers help you out. Have a great rest of your day!

Hi Faith,
As far as the day to day scheduling, I would start by looking at any other commitments you have, such as work and family commitments. Also look at what social activities you are interested in participating in. Then you can determine the best way to schedule your classes.

T.J.’s Answer

I'll answer this question in two ways.

If you're referring to how to build a class schedule for college (meaning: You need help with picking classes at specific times/days), you should contact an academic advisor. They'll help you with planning courses without time conflicts!

If you're referring to how to build a personal schedule for college (meaning: How do I balance work/study/free time), your schedule depends on what you plan to do in school.

- How many credit hours do you plan to take each semester (12, 15, 18)?
Depending on the homework and tests in each class, you'll need to prioritize time outside of class to study + work.
- Do you plan to join any extracurricular activities?
If you're a general body member of a club/organization, the time commitment will be less than being on an executive board.
- Do you plan to work during school? Are you going to work part-time on campus, off-campus?
If so, see if your job is flexible towards students. You may need a day off to work on an exam ... Hopefully, your employer shows understanding in those situations.

Here's a couple of resources you can use to build a personal schedule:
- Checklists! Write down things you need to do in a journal or on your phone/computer
- Use a calendar! Seriously. Either a marker-board calendar or Google Calendar. Keep track of dates for homework, family obligations, etc.
- Use apps such as reminders or alarms to get ready for class or remember to go to work/clubs/other obligations.
- Figure out the way you like to work, when you like to work, and how long things take.

I hope this helps! Sending you encouragement with college :)
