Sibusiso Matthews’s Answer

Hello Sinenhlanhla, I trust you're doing great! If you're thinking about pursuing a career in law, it's a good idea to first decide what kind of lawyer you'd like to be. There's a vast range of specialties to choose from, including patent law, technology law, criminal and civil law, family law, and many more.

Knowing the kind of lawyer you want to be will help guide your choice of subjects. Law is all about effective communication and interpretation, so if your school offers History, it's definitely worth considering. Additionally, Economics and Accounting are not just important for law, but for any career path. I can't stress enough how beneficial they can be - as a computer science student, I wish I had taken these subjects in High School. They really help in understanding the world better and managing your finances effectively.

And don't underestimate the value of extracurricular activities like debating, public speaking, and chess. These activities can boost your confidence and equip you with skills that will be invaluable in your law journey.

Sibusiso Matthews recommends the following next steps:

First figure out what type of Lawyer you would like to become.

Natalie’s Answer

Choosing to be a lawyer is great and in high demand and it pays well! You want to follow some basic steps to get started on your way in becoming a lawyer;

Natalie recommends the following next steps:

Speak with a counselor at your school and take a career assessment test. The results will give you an idea of what career opportunities exist based on your answers.
If none of the results interest you and you still want to become a lawyer, you will need to research law schools and learn what the requirements and costs are for at least 3 choices
The counselor can help you with scholarships or grants you may qualify for to help with expenses l
Register for those schools and follow their procedures for new students. A counselor there will help you map out the courses you will need to take and start you on your patch of your career choice.
