How does being understanding connect with producing a show?
Hello, I want to produce a show in the future so I'm looking for advice early on.

This is a very good question. The reason why a producer needs to be a very understanding individual is because they are typically managing a team with a variety of personalities. Producers make a lot of decisions in the moment and need to be able to take into consideration how their decision will impact their team. But, you do need balance. Being understanding does not equate to saying "yes" to everything. Your decisions should be wise, which intrinsically requires a level of understanding - for your team, your client, your network, etc.

It is very exciting that you are drawn to the producing end of theatre, television, video or radio ! It's a very rewarding part of the show and so vital as you would be enabling and expediting stories, messages and entertainment that you believe in ! I am happy to share some advice with you that would hopefully inspire you and address what you've asked.
Being understanding has a wide range of meanings, so let's start with your understanding of human behavior and the human experience. It seems that the more a person is understanding of others and situations, the more patience they develop and strong bonds can develop between the people. A person can connect with situations and circumstances, various types of people and take into consideration what has shaped that person. Really based on cause and effect, it's just a matter of being interested in people. This trait will carry you very far in your private life as well as a professional in any career. Keep your curiosity alive, read a lot about subjects that you're interested in and engage in meaningful conversations with people. Everyone appreciates people who understand them as sometimes people do feel that no one does. So keep an understanding mind and heart high on your list.
As a performing arts producer, you must constantly tap into your creativity and never stop learning about new things. You must understand the elements that go into producing a show in your chosen medium and learn the parts each professional plays to create the final product. A true understanding of this will be a great benefit to you. You must also understand how to set goals and have the motivation to commit to accomplishing those goals. Understanding what you need to do is crucial to working on a project. Understanding producing will be enhanced if you took certain courses in college. Some of these courses are in Social Science, Humanities, Computer applications, Entrepreneurship, Business Law and Microeconomics. You will than understand your role and purpose in producing shows.
So, it's basically a combination of being understanding on a personal level as well as an intellectual level. Continue learning by reading and doing searches on the internet for pertinent videos you can view. The more overall understanding capacity you have, the more welcoming you will be to other professionals and people that you meet.
