Jarrell’s Answer

I have participated in marching band and worked with marching bands for over 15 years. It's time-consuming but it builds a majority of the skills you need in life. It builds character, teamwork, pride and many other skills needed to be successful in life. Marching band is fun and you will build many relationships for networking down the road. My philosophy consists of music that challenges you mentally and physically.

Jarrell recommends the following next steps:

Check out different marching bands that fit your style.
Reach out to the program that you are interested in for some feedback.

Joe’s Answer

Having spent over 10 years in a Marching Band the answer is "It Depends". You will find it varies on the type of band and the things they participate in. A Drum Line section might put in a lot more practice than say a full 100 piece marching ensemble.

Did you inquire about time commitments from the music program? That is where you should go to get information specific to the program you might be interested in.
