Hey Arielle!
I just Want to tell you that every author has their own rhythm—some work a little each day, while others dive in for hours (or even days) when inspiration hits. Also it's based on their work and deadlines. If you’re publishing your own book and there’s no deadline, you get to set the pace. When I write stories or blogs, I like to keep going until I’m done—it takes time, but staying consistent helps me finish strong. The best part is that You’re in control of your time and creativity. If you love writing, just keep going—every word brings you closer to your story being told! 😉
If you are into becoming an author you have to read widely exploring different genres and authors like you have done here OT understand techniques and writing styles. This will broaden your perspective and enhance your creativity as well. Try to develop writing habits by sitting aside a little time each day or week to practice because consistency helps you improve and find your own unique voice or words🤫. You can always write complete your drafts first and then edit it throughly. Good writing is said to be rewriting so don't rush the process. My brother has been working on his Noval for a year or more now and he is rewriting and editing it to ensure it is the way of his own style and line. So it takes time but will be rewarding at the end too. Make sure to stay persistent as well because you will be rejected but you will have to know it is part of the process. So don't give up and keep improving and submitting your work.
All the best and good luck.

Dr recommends the following next steps:

Madeleine’s Answer

As an Independent contractor, doing most of my work in journalism, I have had the opportunity to choose my assignments. I am part-time as I supplement my income with substitute teaching.

As life continues, I am caring for a loved one. I have made different choices in life based on what is happening. As a young person, you will have time to choose how much time you spend on writing. There have been times in my life, that I have had plenty of time to write, but remember you will have to decide how much time you spend writing. I enjoy writing poetry, and fictional writing, but poetry is a hard sell and I have not had as much time for fictional writing.

If you choose to write, remember you should enjoy what you do. Life will offer you many choices. Make sure you can live with your choices.

Bethany’s Answer

First, I want to give you praise! As a young person, it is admirable that you are asking questions about becoming an author. This is an honorable endeavor and the world always needs more exceptional writers. I am a professional writer and I have had a passion for writing since I was in the third grade. I enjoy what I do and I get paid very well for my work.

To answer your question, I have plenty of free time to pursue other activities I enjoy because I work for myself. I get to set my own work hours and I can take time off whenever I want. Of course, I work hard to make sure I make enough money to buy the things I want. However, I still have plenty of free time to enjoy my hobbies.

I hope this answer helps you. If you have any other additional questions for me, please ask!

Bethany recommends the following next steps:

To become an author, now is the best time to start improving your writing skills. You can take writing classes at school, participate in writing contests or just start writing for fun!

As an independent contractor, with most of my work in journalism, I have supplemented my work with substitute teaching. I am part-time in both of these capacities.

As a writer, you will have to determine for yourself how much time you will dedicate to your love of writing. I have had the privilege of also raising a family. Remember the choice is yours as to how much time you will devote to your passion. Bottom line, life is a journey and choices are made, but you must be able to live with those choices.

I am now in my sixties and most of my time is being spent caring for a loved one, but I still try to devote time to writing. Poetry is a hard sell, but it is something I love. Additionally, I have written some fictional works, but I have not had the time to market these. Remember, there are scams, and you don't want to pay someone to publish your work, they should be paying you. I have heard of people publishing through Amazon, but I have never tried this, but that is not to say I won't try it in the future.

Bottom line, you should enjoy what you do. Best wishes as an author.

Victoria’s Answer

Arielle - As a full time writer I am able to make my own schedule. Writing provides me with the flexibility I need to be creative. There are days where I am very busy writing but I am always able to find time for my family and my dogs. I also have days that allow me to have lots of play time. Every day brings something new and interesting.

Saint’s Answer

Hey Arielle!

Great question! As an author, how much free time someone has can depend on the type of work they're doing and how fast they write. Writing can take a lot of time and focus, especially when creating stories, editing, or brainstorming new ideas. But many authors also make time for things like spending time with family, exercising, or doing hobbies.

Once an author finishes a book or project, they might have more free time. But when they’re working on something new, they might spend a lot of time writing, revising, or thinking about their story.

It’s like having a job where you get to be creative, but it still requires hard work and dedication. It’s all about balancing writing with other things in life!

Hope that helps!

Good luck!

Saint

Punalur’s Answer

As a writer/author I have no free time at all, in that sense. I am always working. Either writing for a living or reading and engaging in cultural activities. But I always find time to listen to others and motivate whoever comes to me with their writing or doubts. Sometimes, during cultural activities, which consists of singing, writing competition, poetry, stories, and speeches, the participants used to ask for a remark or analysis of their piece of work. I do it with sincerity and dedication. I think, all writers/authors will have no free time and at the same time they have enough free time.

For me, writing does not mean just placing words together. It is bringing ideas of expression. Whenever you write, you not only do the writing but also you are acquiring and developing knowledge. This means when you write, you may want information or learning. When you grasp one piece of information or learning it goes to your subconscious mind making its imprints and developing to make you understand more things. We, you, me, and others acquire and, increase knowledge and intelligence in this manner. So writing directly or indirectly involves learning. Okay?

Now let's see this in another way. We dream, right? The dreams reflect our knowledge about what we see or know, and beyond. It is a thinking process. These thoughts are imaginations about what we want for our growth and, what we want to become in the future, etc. So these imaginations make you dream a thing. When you dream one thing, then you dream two things, then three and so on. Thus, if you dream you automatically try to achieve them. So if you dream about touching stars, at least you would be touching the sky.

So, writing, reading, and learning make you great dreamers and good citizens. When you become a good citizen, you become a good son, daughter, brother, sister, and neighbour. Thus you understand other people and their needs, and these make you work for them. So, writing a book or an essay for paper is the mirror of you and your environment. Every writing you do is a question for others to answer and practice. This is the writing we know in principle.
