Why is Radiology one of the best medical fields? Is it worth getting into the practice of Radiology?

I am currently in my first semester of college. My career goal is to become a Radiologist. I love to play volleyball, surf and spend time with family.

I can't speak to radiology vs. other medical fields, but it's a field with increasing demand, many career options, great pay, and interesting work. I recommend it.

Radiology is a wonderful specialty. The good news is that to become one, you get to go to medical school, where you rotate through most specialties, learning about the complete human and how the art and science of medicine helps patients stay healthy, improve their health, or minimize suffering. So, you have plenty of time to decide for yourself if Radiology remains your interest.
Radiology may be changing more rapidly than other specialties, as AI is getting extremely good at diagnosis based on images. More Radiology is moving to interventional radiology, where the radiologist uses imaging to place tubes, catheters, drains, biopsy needles...
Radiologists have a bit fewer night responsibilities than other specialties, but you should expect some night and weekend/holiday call with occasional midnight trips to the hospital.
There are sub-specialties of Radiology one may consider, including interventional, neurological (and even neuron-interventional), pediatric radiology...

Akofa’s Answer

It’s hard to say that radiology is the “best” medical field, as the ideal specialty greatly depends on your interests, skills, and desired lifestyle. Radiology offers high earning potential, a good work-life balance, and the chance to work with cutting-edge medical technology, which many find appealing. However, it involves lengthy training and generally less direct patient interaction compared to other specialties. Ultimately, whether radiology is worth pursuing depends on what you value most in your medical career and personal life, but could be an amazing choice if it will provide you the lifestyle that you are looking for!
