How do different anesthetics affect the brain long term?

does it differ from man to woman? to kids? I am pre nursing school at Fran U and my goal is to become a nurse anesthetist. I know that there are really interesting studies on how anesthesia affects the Brian and was wondering if different medicines have different affects.

Good question. Maybe a research project for you! The short answer is yes to all. Everyone reacts differently, different drugs have various effects and also affect different people in varied ways. There's no simple answer but in general, elderly have a more difficult time. Even one administration of anesthesia can trigger dementia to some degree and subsequent events usually exacerbate it.
