How can I break into the toy industry as a writer?
I don’t have much experience right now but am very passionate about dolls and toys. I’m currently an Applied Liberal Arts major with a focus/minor in Psychology. I really enjoy storytelling and writing, I’d love to find a way to write blurbs for toys on the back of packaging. Where can I start?

It doesn't have to be an explosive start, and luckily, there are wonderful sites like Substack and Medium that are accommodating to writers of all kinds. I strongly recommend both, and practicing writing in a journal to better find your voice is always a good idea. Best of luck, and remember, a writing voice comes of its own accord, and if you want to take this the whole way, never give up.

Explore toy companies like Leapfrog, known for their educational toys. They offer exciting opportunities for content writers and editors who review school textbooks and create engaging Q&A content for these toys.

Hi Alexis! That’s such a fun and creative goal and totally within reach! A great place to start is by building a small portfolio where you write your own toy blurbs, stories, or product descriptions for existing or imagined toys. You can share these on a blog or LinkedIn to showcase your style. Look into internships with toy companies, children’s media, or branding/marketing firms that work with products. Your background in psychology and storytelling is a huge plus since it shows you understand how to connect with audiences emotionally. Keep creating and look for mentorships and guidance from people who are in the industry and field. Good luck!
