How can I be more social in college?
I'll be a freshman in college this fall 2025, and I don't consider myself outgoing. I'd like to make friends and get to know my teachers, but I'm nervous. Additionally, I went to the open house for the college I plan to attend, feeling out of place being there.

Hi Angel, Feeling nervous about starting college is totally normal, especially if you're a bit shy. Many others are feeling the same way, even if they don't show it. Try getting to class a bit early and start a simple conversation with the person next to you about the course or campus life. Little chats like these can help you connect. Don't worry too much about the teacher. Asking a question after class or emailing for advice on resources are great ways to build a good relationship. You're already getting ready for what's ahead, and that's awesome!

Hi Angel,
This is such an exciting time! College can be an amazing experience, especially if you get involved in campus activities. Many schools host events like Welcome Week at the start of the semester, where clubs and organizations showcase what they offer—it's a great way to find your interests and connect with others. I highly recommend attending these events; they're perfect for meeting fellow students as well as faculty and staff in a fun, casual setting.
Another great hub on campus is the student center. It's not only a place to hang out but also a spot where you’ll find flyers, announcements, and info about upcoming events, meet-and-greets, and more ways to get involved.
Best of luck on your college adventure.
