Paul’s Answer

The College Foundation Office, of the university or college you wish to attend.

Normally, colleges and universities have a Foundation, that controls all the private donations and the endowments for the university.

Amongst these private donations, can be scholarships for students to apply for.

These are normally based on a students major, future occupation, activities on campus, and other categories that match with a students interest or academic goals.

So, the College Foundation Office is another website to investigate.

Layne’s Answer

Great question, Alana! My advice is that there are a lot of scholarships, both "big" scholarships as well as local scholarships and awards, as well as scholarships and awards for people who specialize in a certain area, or represent the values of the person for whom the scholarship was established. I would encourage you to reach out to various local organizations who may not advertise their scholarships, such as the chamber of commerce, rotary club, social groups, etc. Also, if you are involved in certain activities (athletic, academic, environmentalism, etc.) do a search to see if there are groups in the area that provide a scholarship in that field. Expand your search to your state. I was able to find scholarships and awards locally and state-wide. Also, contact your college or university about any specialized scholarships. Likewise, in some colleges, the departments may not have a scholarship just for students in that department. Search also for national scholarships available to students interested in STEM. Finally, also apply for available aid and scholarships offered broadly. Good luck in your search!

Layne recommends the following next steps:

Search local organizations that may not advertise scholarships
Expand your search to state wide scholarships in your areas of interest
Contact your university about department or specialty scholarships
Search broadly, there are many organizations that wish to support aspiring students
