Skyler,
My sister and I went to nursing school together and eventually I became a nurse practitioner and she went back to school for informatics. She loves what she does! And she is also able to have better work-life balance than most NPs that I know. A lot of that to do with setting priorities and boundaries, though. She does need to work late occasionally (like when there are new launches or big updates) and travel sometimes to meet with teams around the country or to support hospitals adopting new technology / electronic medical records, but she is usually working on projects remotely and has some flexibility with her schedule. She has great work-life balance. She is able to work full-time, travel, spend time with friends and family, has time for hobbies, etc.
Hope this helps!
Best of luck,
Carmen

Ifeoma’s Answer

Not really, most informatics nurses have a good work-life balance.

Since the job is mostly office-based with regular hours (no night shifts like bedside nurses), it’s usually easier to manage family time. However, during big system updates or projects, they might work extra hours. Overall, it’s one of the more flexible and family-friendly nursing careers.
