They say in college you only have time for 2/3 “s’s” - school, sleep, social life.

I believed that my first semester and put grades and classes behind the other two. There is a better way.

To have a better experience and to start right, make a plan weekly on the most important things to accomplish. Get as much done as possible while be flexible when spontaneous social things come up.

For schoolwork, get into the habit of introducing yourself to professors and TA’s. Learn as much as possible from others and from your mistakes. Get high grades.

Make sure to be involved with as many social things as possible. Even as an introvert, I’m glad I put myself out there as many times that I did.

Prioritize sleep. If you want to have fun & see results for both social life and grades, sleep will be so important.

Best of luck!

Hi Karolina. The first step in creating a good start to your college experience is to develop a positive, proactive mindset. College is a big change, and things may be different from what you're used to, but approaching it with a curious attitude will help you handle whatever comes your way. You can think of this as a time to grow and learn, both academically and personally.

The next important step is to get organized. College comes with more responsibility than high school, so staying on top of your schedule is key. Make sure to write down your class times, assignment deadlines, and exam dates. By staying organized, you'll reduce stress and feel more in control of your workload.

Building relationships is another way to make a good start. Try to meet new people by going to events or joining clubs that interest you. This will help you make friends and feel more connected to campus. Don't forget to introduce yourself to your professors too! They can be great resources if you need help with your studies or want advice about your future career. All the best to you.

What a great question! College is a fantastic opportunity to explore different paths. It's perfectly fine to start without a clear direction and use this time to try new things. If you feel like changing courses, go ahead. Every experience is valuable and will help shape your future career. You don't need to have all the answers right now. It's more important to have diverse experiences—try new activities and meet people from different backgrounds. Join clubs, sports, and get involved in extracurriculars and study groups to broaden your experience. YOU'VE GOT THIS!!
