Hi Austin,

Great question! WIthout knowing specifically what type of career you want to get into, you want to start gaining experience now if possible. This can mean internships, volunteering, and clubs for example. If there is a student organization associated with the career, often times they are a funnel into a professional organization.

Also you can use experience that is not directly related to the career if you can show that you are developing your soft skills, whih are very valued in today's workforce. For example, if you are a leader of a club or you planned and implemented an event. Showing evidence of soft skills like communication, problem solving, adaptibility helps.

Develop independent projects for a portfolio to show your understanding of the field, any research or ideas you have. This depends on the field you are going into as to what would work best.

The key is showing how your experience and skills will be valuable to that role. By showing initiative, you give a potentially employer more to consider beyond direct experience in that field.

Hope this is helpful!
