What prereqs would i need for Diagnostic Medical Sonography program at stc?
Hello! i know the website does share what prereqs but im wondering if the Advanced Technical Certificate is better or the Associate of Applied Science. Thank you and have a good day!

Since you have not started your enrollment as a Sonography Major at South Texas College as of yet, thinking about certifications is fine, but it is way too soon. It's too soon because you need to go through your sonography education in order to get things in perspective because many times, requirements change, new certifications may be added old ones may be discontinued, so certifications can wait and you will naturally know what is needed at some point during your sonography program.
You also need to obtain exact detailed information directly from the sonography program department. You have stated that their website is difficult to navigate and that in itself is an indication that you need to call or visit them to obtain verbal and printed information that you can refer to when it comes time to take certifications.
The degree you would be going for will be the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Associate of Applied Science. This is what you'll need to focus on for right now. The Advanced Technical is not a certification, it is a program. That program is for students that already have had prior experience in radiologic technology or a related field. Since you do not have that background yet, you would take the program called the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Associate of Applied Science - that's a program. Once you do that, you can decide if you want to enroll for the Advanced Technical Program.
Reaching out in person at the campus will be your best bet in understanding the program. Every college has official representatives that can give up to date and accurate information that may not be on their website and can pertain to your specific circumstances. You can do an online chat also and there's a section especially for parents to read on the website so they can become familiar and discuss things with you. See the links below.
It would help greatly to register for an orientation/tour of the campus so you can be more familiar with it and obtain documents and literature about your major program.
Regarding the website, I would advise that you spend some time on there and grow comfortable with it because once you are enrolled, you'll sign up for the student portal where lots of communication and information takes place. So keep in mind that when you start your sonography program, you are going to start fresh and at the beginning. Whatever courses are needed will be told to you by the sonography department and you can ask them to give you a printout of the required courses in the specific program.

Entry-level sonography positions in Texas typically require an associates degree. For more advanced roles you might need a bachelors. So, Diagnostic Medical Sonography Associate of Applied Science is the correct degree for you. When you graduate from the program, you can take the ARDMS exam and look for a job.
If you would like an advanced degree later, you can probably transfer your credits to a 4-year program or find a bridging program.
